Mrs Calvert's Weekly Message

Dear Parents,

I hope that you are all well. The children are working very hard and we are really proud of all their endeavours.

The recent stormy weather has unfortunately severely damaged our marquee so Braywood Extra have had to move to the Church house and/or dining room. These buildings are very like a marquee as they can be easily ventilated. This has not impacted upon the arrival and dismissal of our Year 1, 2 and 3 children. Year 3 will however start being collected from the main school entrance from Monday 17th May. This is because they have moved back into their classroom and are nearer the main entrance.

It has been pointed out by parents that some mums and dads are arriving on site too early or not leaving promptly once they have collected their child. This makes it increasingly difficult for other parents to find a parking space and adds to the congestion outside the school. I appreciate that parents want to socialise, but please do not stay unnecessarily (especially to congregate near the horses in the nearby fields) as this exacerbates this situation.

As you might be aware, each class are continuing to provide 'booster groups. These clubs include support to master the children's end of year assessments. Although the Government does not require official data from the Phonics Test, end of KS1 assessments and the new (but not yet launched) Y4 Times Table Tests, we would like to capture the children's progress for our parents.

Over the next three weeks we are celebrating 100 years of the British Legion. We are reflecting upon this milestone many ways including supporting Sir Captain Tom's Charity and joining in with the Royal Mail's Heroes Stamp Competition. Your child will be given a hard copy of both these events and we would be grateful if any sponsorship forms could be returned promptly. We have already discussed the sad loss of Prince Phillip with the children and the wonderful service that he gave to this country. We are planning to work with our local community to plant a tree in his memory.

As a way of engaging in a whole school celebration on Friday 28th May we are going to reflect on how life would be like at Braywood 100 years ago. This ties in really well with the work that we did on the census. We are asking that children come into school in the clothes that they think would have been worn in school at that time. Everyone is working hard learning to dance the Charleston and the children will also be enjoying a special tea.

Please see below a message from the PTA. Each class are busy doing their 100 challenges so I hope that you can sponsor us. The form is attached to this email.

Dear parents,

This week the children will be celebrating the amazing achievements of Captain Tom and ensuring his legacy lives on by taking part in a sponsored activity. Each year group will be set a challenge to complete 100 of something. Please fill out your forms with as many sponsors as possible and return forms & sponsorship money to school by Friday 14th May. at the earliest. All funds raised will be going to The Captain Tom Foundation.

Thank-you!

On a final note, please find attached two flyers regarding local Cricket Clubs that are starting back up run by Dynamos and All Stars. Do consider following us on twitter@braywoodschool as each class should be posing a message every week.

Kind Regards

Susan Calvert
