We are passionate about all physical activities
Each child is encouraged to play a full part in our physical education programme at Braywood. There is a well-balanced range of activities, which not only develops a child’s physical skills and health, but also promotes important personal qualities such as self-confidence, control and team work. PE/Brain breaks are built into our daily timetable to invigorate the children's aptitudes and help them access their lessons afresh. Wherever we can add an active element to a lesson, we try to do so.
Every teacher plans their own class's PE lessons and there is a wide range of opportunities to explore during the school day. We cover most curricular areas from dance, gymnastics, athletics and most striking and fielding sports. Experts in their field from Windsor Sport Partnership regularly visit our school to train the children in various sports, gymnastics or dance. We compete in local school tournaments alongside other schools and have six inter-school tournaments run by our Year 4 pupils. The older children swim in the summer term and we host an annual sports day for the whole school.
There is a wider range of sporting opportunities in our extra-curricular opportunities which have included Judo, Karate, Fencing, Playball, Rugby, Football, Street Dance, Tennis, Golf, Cricket, Squash etc. Having a wide range of physical experiences for children to explore is an expression of our PE curriculum.
Playing sport helps to keep people healthy and is good for everyone's mental health. The Government are keen to support playing sport at school and have provided all schools with additional funding to support this area. At Braywood we have used this grant to employ a specialist PE teacher, purchase more sporting equipment and we will be continuing to be part of the Windsor Sports Partnership.
