Mrs Calvert's Weekly Message

Dear Parents,

The children have all come back to school brilliantly and we have had full attendance. Thank you to all the parents who have made this possible. We are all very pleased to announce a new arrival to our school - Paddy. He is a tiny little duckling who has hatched this morning, much to the delight of our little acorns. There is a time-lapsed video attached.

Last Thursday we celebrated Maths Day with a focus on the census. The children collected a range of data through google forms which was very impressive.

As a reminder, this Thursday 18th March (tomorrow) is our Literacy Day. Children can come to school dressed as a book character. Please don't spend a lot of money on an expensive costume. The theme is rhyme with a focus on our family and friends. We have virtual sessions booked for every class with a poet. On this day we will be looking at our values and our pupil parliament will be discussing the children's motto.

'Even though we are all different, together we make a masterpiece'

As usual, on World Book Day children will be given £1 book voucher. Each child will bring a voucher home, but I have also attached some electronic tokens. Here is a link  to an Usborne Book sale and there is a letter attached with more information on how to purchase a book.  The following

Thursday 25th March is our Science and Entrepreneurial Day where the focus is on creativity, innovation and enterprise. If you can spare some time to talk on a virtual platform to the children in your class about this area do please call the office.

With increased vaccinations and the recent lockdown there has been progress made against this dreadful virus. As a result, we are planning to reintroduce some previous school services such as cooked lunches, snacks, extra-curricular provision etc. After Easter we will be reinstating our usual cooked lunches such as jacket potatoes, fish and chips and roasts. The usual lunchtime menu together with a special Easter menu specifically for Thursday 1st April are attached to this email.

Do look out for information from the PTA about an Easter Egg raffle for £1.50, a guess the number of Easter eggs in a jar game for 50p and a colouring competition. There is a poster attached to this email.  Another change we are planning is the opening of Braywood Extra after Easter. This is dependent upon the levels of the virus in the community, but we hope to open again at 7.45am and close at 5.30pm. If you are interested in using this club, please contact the office.

Thank you to the parents who have filled in this form. I have amended it a little so if you had any problems, do have another go. Any child who has not returned their 'back to school' questionnaire could you also please bring that back into school.

On a final note, there is a booklet attached with some ideas if any child gets anxious through Easter. Some children may feel that they are back in lockdown again. The borough is promoting Holiday Activity and Food funds for children eligible for free school meals called FUEL (Feed Ur Everyday Lives). Families can submit an interest through the link below with the opportunity to receive an art and crafts pack/and or a skipping rope/ball/frisbee pack. The Governments Winter Grant Fund is available for families and alongside Free School Meal vouchers are available through Easter. click here for more details

Any questions, do please ring the school.

Kind regards

Susan Calvert
