Dear Parents,

Half term starts this Friday between 1.30-2pm. Please note there will be no Squirrel Club or Grab & Go on this day

Please be advised that if the weather deteriorates significantly tomorrow, the school will not expect you to make a journey to school if you did not feel comfortable.

There is lots to look forward to when we come back after half term.

All pupils (except our Little Acorns) need to have their full PE kit in school on the first day back after half term. It needs to be in your child's 'house' colours PE bag. 'Caught being good' stickers, cards and merit marks all contribute towards our houses, alongside our 'star of the week' award and sporting achievements.

Important dates to note.

World Book Day and Literacy Day on Thursday 3rd March

All children will be invited to dress up in their favourite pair of pyjamas, lounge wear or onesie for the day. Please make sure that your child will be warm in school with layers for outside playtimes. The theme is 'sharing a book' and children can buy a book on Thursday 10th March during an Usborne book sale with their £1 voucher.

Mathematics Day on Thursday 10th March

This day will focus on Maths and some of the areas the children find hard to learn, such as telling the time with an analogue clock and using money. On this day children will be allowed to wear home clothes demonstrating their most vibrant top/jumper and silly socks. We will be launching a 'tuck shop' on this day where snacks can be purchased at break time. If this is successful, we plan to continue this initiative throughout the year. The money raised from this day’s sale will go towards the Thames Hospice.

Science and Entrepreneurial Day on Thursday 17th March

This day is always very exciting. This year we will focus on the area of science and each class will listen to a speaker from Pfizer, (one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies) and explore the theme is growth. We will look at a variety of scientific principles and there will be an array of scientific gadgets for sale. The costs are small, and items will be limited to specific year groups. The profit from this sale will go towards the school and providing more STEM resources.

Red Nose Day is on Friday 18th March and children can purchase red noses all week. These funds will go towards Comic Relief.

Music Festival on Friday 1st April

We will be having an array of musical performances on this day including our Rocksteady Groups. Your child is invited to bring in a picture or a photograph of their favourite musical/artist/pop star into school and discuss why they enjoy listening to their music. We are very passionate about fostering a love of music. Children listen and play a variety of instruments during music lessons and in Year 3 we are supported by Berkshire Maestros. This year the Oaks are learning to play the ukulele. If there are any parents who would like to share their musical ability/skills with the children, please contact the school office.

Fantastic Fred Experience on Wednesday 6th April

This is a preventative and educational mental health resource for primary aged children delivered by a team of trained actors.

Later in this term we will be hosting a face-to-face parents evening which will follow the same format and our half termly newsletter will be resurrected to help parents keep a track of important dates in advance. Coming up will be more information regarding the Queen's Jubilee, Colour after Covid, and end of year productions.

Please find attached an update on our After School Clubs, some that are continuing after half term and an exciting new club starting on a Monday.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and enjoyable half term.

Kind regards

Susan Calvert
